Who Am I?

Your result for The Classic Dames Test...

Katharine Hepburn

You scored 12% grit, 29% wit, 62% flair, and 10% class!

You are the fabulously quirky and independent woman of character. You go your own way, follow your own drummer, take your own lead. You stand head and shoulders next to your partner, but you are perfectly willing and able to stand alone. Others might be more classically beautiful or conventionally woman-like, but you possess a more fundamental common sense and off-kilter charm, making interesting men fall at your feet. You can pick them up or leave them there as you see fit. You share the screen with the likes of Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant, thinking men who like strong women.

62% flair means I have "more than 97% of my peers." Wow, that's a lot of flair! More explanation points!!! Heh. If there is one thing I do not have, it is flair. Seriously. But I would love to be more like Katharine Hepburn. The first role that comes to mind is Ethel, in On Golden Pond. Yep, I think this fits. :-)

Cult Chef?

You Are a Creative Cook

Your cooking is unusual, inspired, and definitely one of a kind. People love your unique style, but you've had your share of kitchen flops.

You have the makings of a cult chef. You may not cook at the Four Seasons, but you could have your own little funky cafe in San Francisco!

Are You A Good Cook?

Flops? FLOPS?! You mean, like when I put too much brandy in the bread pudding? That was intentional. Maybe the potato peeling/vegetable scrap soup wasn't so great, but seriously, we were strapped for cash. Hrmph.

And this afternoon's lunch? Tater Tot Casserole (a pound of ground turkey, a can of corn, a can of peas, a can of cream of mushroom soup, a can of cream of celery soup and a 32 oz bag of tater tots...mix it all, lay the tater tots on top and bake on 375 about 45 minutes). Heh. Laugh if you must, but church cookbooks always have the best recipes, if you don't count calories and sodium. This is actually pretty good although I probably wouldn't serve it at my funky little cafe. :-)

The Dreamer

You Are a Dreaming Soul

Your vivid emotions and imagination takes you away from this world

So much so that you tend to live in your head most of the time

You have great dreams and ambitions that could be the envy of all...

But for you, following through with your dreams is a bit difficult

You are charming, endearing, and people tend to love you.

Forgiving and tolerant, you see the world through rose colored glasses.

Underneath it all, you have a ton of passion that you hide from others.

Always hopeful, you tend to expect positive outcomes in your life.

Souls you are most compatible with: Newborn Soul, Prophet Soul, and Traveler Soul

What Kind of Soul Are You?

But I wanted to be the Traveler's Soul!

And that whole part about having dreams that are the envy of others but having a difficult time executing them describes the Sailing Adventure to a tee!!

This was a very hard test because I had to pick the most right answer out of several that could have been right. I hate these kinds of tests. That's why I like math.

Beware!

According to this report, there's a 48% chance that I will resort to eating my friends in a blizzard. I think it was the fact that I've never gone more than 24 hours without food. That, and I can outrun most of my friends. ;-)

I Am An American Typewriter

For lack of anything else in my life worth posting at the moment and for fear of not upholding my end of the "post almost every day" mantra, here's some filler...

Typecast Yourself!

And there's a lot of truth in this. One, I really miss the old typewriter days when midnight oil was spent using special typewriter erasers and later, special white out paper and later still, wearing out the correcting ribbon before the black ink ribbon ran out. And I do tend to the simplest, most classic of fonts when given a choice.

I am fascinated by the 1920s era when many self-exiled Americans lived in Europe. Some interesting literature, music and art came out of that period, but I don't have a lick of Hemingway memorized.

I do have several black and white photos integrated into my decor, but they are not of Paris.

I love using the word "davenport." My grandpa is the only person I know who ever used it on a daily basis. And that is what we called the couch whenever we were at his house. It sounds so "high society" to me. I don't use "haberdashery" but maybe I will now. I do use "hooligans" though, another word from Grandpa, usually prefaced by the words "a bunch of."

I've only recently discovered mojitos and wondered where have these been all my life? Rum mixed with lime juice and mint leaves. What's not to like? But I haven't developed the discriminating taste that would require that I send it back for re-mixing. Not yet anyway. ;-)

And I love, love, love summer hats and linen ensembles...

Exhibit B

So American Typewriter it is. What font are you?

Via Rachel, who is Comic Sans...poor thing. :-)

Fantasy Band Redux

As I was correcting my links in the last post (it's no wonder the important things in life don't always get done), I tested them and couldn't resist taking up this latest iteration....

Band name: Pastured Poultry (Heh. I'm thinking the genre has to be Old Hippie Rock, no?)

Album name: You're Choking To Death (isn't this is how Mama Cass died? Hmmm, I guess not)

And the album cover art (courtesy of http://www.flickr.com/photos/rayfujioka/) which I believe to be a photo of "magic" mushrooms. Psychedelic Hippie Rock, then:

That was fun. :-)

New Music Release!

Updated to fix the links and add a few new ones at bottom of post...it's interesting that all of the assorted albums I've seen so far look like honest to goodness albums...just goes to show the very eclectic nature of the music biz, I think. Fun stuff.

Via Eric of Fire Ant Gazette, via Dustbury.com comes this meme of serious consequences (when you have finally had it up to HERE with election "news," take a break and play along at your leisure. Build your own band, album, and album cover, using the vast resources of the interwebs...chosen at random.

Here are the steps:

For the name of your band, go here (Wikipedia) and take the name of the first article that appears on the screen.

For the name of the album, go here (The Quotations Page) and gather the last four words of the last quote on the page (you might have to hit refresh or something to get a new page of quotes to appear)

And finally, go here (Flickr) for the album cover art and pick the third picture on the screen.

If you would like, follow Eric's directions to find out how well your band's album is doing on the Billboard charts via this random number generator (Kalamunda Road's new release is # 38 on the charts!) and what genre your band messes around in, just for extra good measure. Kalamunda Road is classified as "Drone." Drone? I don't think that really captures the spirit of Kalamunda's driving beat. I'd call it Nomadic Grunge.

Coincidentally (or not), Kalamunda Road "provides access to Perth City and Midland," from whence this meme derives.

The band's album name comes from the full quote by my favorite children's author, A.A. Milne:

"If the person you are talking to doesn't appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear," from Pooh's Little Instruction Book, inspired by A. A. Milne (I modified the gender to fit the image).

Wise words. :-)

Bah, Humbug!

I am not a fan of "the holidays," in the commercial sense, so this meme is right up my alley...

Via Jim and Brian - The Bah Humbug meme (aka Stuff I Hate About the Holidays):

1) dessert/cookie/family food: I know you expect me to say fruitcake here, but honestly? I love fruitcake. Which pretty much discredits everything else I have to say from this point on, I realize. But the holiday food I really hate is sweet potatoes made sweeter with stuff, especially MARSHMALLOWS. Gak. Give me a sweet potato with butter, salt and pepper anyday.

2) beverage (seasonal beer, eggnog w/ way too much egg and not enough nog, etc): Don't screw with the egg nog...no alcohol (is that the "nog?")!

3) tradition (church, family, other): Office holiday parties. Ugh.

4) Decoration: Like Brian, I think I'd have to rule out blow-up decorations, but I'm not above sticking one of those inflatables on my lawn, just for laughs (not that I have done that, mind you...I do have standards, you know).

5) gift (received or given): One year, living on a tight budget, I made all of my gifts. For my step-mother who has everything and very little taste for "country chic," I made a wreath with little calico print potpouri sachets tied to it like bows. She gratefully accepted the gift and then stashed it away in a closet somewhere, or maybe the attic. I'm not sure. I'll have to ask her where that is, now that I think about it.

BONUS: SONG/CD that makes you want to tell the elves where to stick it: Jim stole his answer from me (Santa Baby), but the version that first comes to mind for me is the one sung by Eartha Kitt. What awful lyrics.

Just Like Junior High

I don't know why it pleases me so, to know that my blog reads at the Junior High level (see the new gizmo/widget/whatchamacallit in the right side bar). My parents will be so proud.

I hated Junior High so, so much. Perhaps I'm still just trying to fit in. Or maybe it comforts me to know that I can't possibly alienate any of my college educated readers by talking down to them...like that was a big concern. I think the most plausible explanation is that it means I am hereby excused from having anything intelligent to say. We are now free to roam about the cabin hurling insults (or food) at one another.

Filling the Void

This blog has paused for a station break and will return sometime, as soon as a thought or moment of inspiration strikes. Don't hold your breath.

You Have Your Sarcastic Moments

While you're not sarcastic at all times, you definitely have a cynical edge.

In your opinion, not all people are annoying. Some are dead!

And although you do have your genuine moments, you can't help getting your zingers in.

Some people might be a little hurt by your sarcasm, but it's more likely they think you're hilarious.

7 & 7

I've been tagged! Thanks, Janie, I was beginning to wonder when I'd post again.

I'm supposed to name 7 random things about me and then tag 7 others (and I don't care if you have already done it, if I tag you, you have to do it again and of course, because these are random things, you must name 7 more random things).

#1 - 7 is my favorite number. It is also God's favorite number (if you don't believe me, just check out the Bible...no, not as in "check it out at the library" but open it and start reading...you'll see). This year my birthday falls on 07-07-07 which is just really cool. I wonder how I'll spend it. I've no plans but I'm sure God does.

#2 - I've never drunk a "7&7" (that is a mixed drink, isn't it?) but maybe I should. For my birthday. ;-)

#3 - I cry everytime I watch a horse race or the Olympics (pretty much during any individual sport...running, swimming, bicycling...but not team sports, well, maybe curling). Everytime. I can't help myself. Did anyone watch this year's Belmont Stakes? I accidentally landed on the channel and stuck around long enough to watch the race (and what a race it was....the first filly to win in over 100 years and neck and neck at the end!) I had warned my husband there would be tears if we watched it, but he still seemed shocked when my face was soaked in tears at the end. Sobbing, I was.

#4 - I'm a color fanatic. I love to pick out colors...painting the house, clothing, artwork, beadwork, you name it. Certain colors and color combinations make me very happy. It's like aromatherapy only with colors instead of aromas...duh. If I could find a way to harness my admiration of art and colors in such a way as to make a living doing it, that would be my calling. But alas, there is no advanced degree in "Colors."

#5 - I am a realist. I take life as it comes and am not usually disappointed. I don't come across as a bubbly optimist, but I'm not a gloom and doom pessimist either. I've learned not to set my hopes too high (the best things in life are unplanned and unexpected) and I try to find the good in bad situations. Sometimes, this means I am slow to make decisions and take actions that might improve my circumstances. I have a very high tolerance for pain. ;-)

#6 - I have a serious fear of public speaking but I enjoy teaching, and if I'm teaching a subject that I enjoy, it doesn't bother me to stand up in front of a big room full of people. I'm not one who can get up and do stand-up routines or anything, but if you're a serious student, I can be a mostly serious and (I think) pretty good teacher. My dad was once a professor, so I think I inherited some of his teaching genes. Maybe I missed this calling.

#7 - I am a perfectionist about many things (don't you know that when you make the bed, the quilt pattern goes like this?!) but planning is not one of them. I do not like planning and for the most part, I do not plan much. When I make plans, I only take pleasure in knowing that God is laughing. So in the absence of plans, I've perfected the art of worrying. I attribute this to my mother who is the world's best worrier. It is only a matter of years before I become my mother.

Now, I tag all of these fine people...

Jim,
Misnomer,
Beth,
Darko,
Sgazetti,

Elephant or Donkey?

Not to start a political debate or anything (just gearing up for what looks like is going to be a very long "election season"), but I can't resist a quiz. Really, I thought I'd be a little more middle of the road than this, but honestly, the only thing on the Democrat questionnaire that I could get behind was shopping at Whole Foods or Trader Joes (neither of which exists here in the Heartland, by the way...shame that)!

You Are 4% Democrat

If you have anything in common with the Democrat party, it's by sheer chance.

You're a staunch conservative, and nothing is going to change that!

How Democrat Are You?

And contrary to what the donkey says, I don't appear to be quite as "staunch" as I sometimes think I am...

You Are 68% Republican

You have a good deal of elephant running through your blood, and you're proud to be conservative.

You don't fit every Republican stereotype, but you definitely belong in the Republican party.

How Republican Are You?

Updtate: How fitting that God Issues Today would say the following:

"It's easy to wonder who you are in a culture which defines us by what we do and those we do it with. If I tell you that I'm a Republican, you automatically assume that I embrace a particular political agenda. If I say that I'm a Democrat, you assume another agenda. If I'm a Libertarian, you're probably just confused. "Baptist preacher" certainly conjures up a particular pulpit-pounding image. If I drive up in my friend's 1965 Mustang convertible (I wish!) you see me very differently than if I show up in my neighbor's pickup.

Fortunately, God's impression of us is not dependent on our job title or mailing address."

Or whether we are a Democrat or Republican. We should all give thanks for that.
