The Shuffle
I am not a big fan of the iPod Shuffle. Case in point, today's Top 10 list:10) Jealousy Tango, by Placido Domingo
9) Some reggae number from a World Music CD, no artist or title given, but trust me, opera doesn't segue well into reggae
8) Jingle Bells, by Count Basie and his Orchestra
7) Let the Lower Lights Be Burning, by Johnny Cash
6) Bust A Move, by Young MC (I have no idea how this got on my iPod, but I'm guessing this is left over from our annual tax retreat where we...oh, never mind)
5) On the Road Again, by Willie Nelson (really, I'm not making this up!)
4) Everybody's Jumpin, by the Dave Brubeck Quartet
3) April in Paris, by Billie Holiday
2) Thankful, by Caedmon's Call
1) Country Farm Blues, by Rory Block
All that while walking around the streets of Chicago. Surreal, really.

What's wrong with that list? Except for Caedmon's Call of course... but other than that, looks pretty cool to me.
Hmmm...this is what I love about putting mine on shuffle - though today was a little much going from Enya to Alice in Chains. :) But in general it's pretty good.
Jealousy Tango? I think Shakira did that too - probably not the same one as Placido though.
Jim, you're kidding, right? What if I threw in some Loggins and Messina?
Eric, I didn't mention Noel, by Joan Baez (since it wasn't in the last 10), but it was actually really cool to be walking along the streets listening to such a powerful and beautiful Christmas song in the middle of April. ;-) Put me in a different spirit, it did. I turned it up and let it play all the way through. But for future reference, how do you screen your shuffle? Or do you park all your Christmas music on the hard drive for part of the year?

Yeah, Alice in Chains. I have what might be termed ecclectic musical tastes. :) The song after AiC (which was after Enya) was something off the collection for the tuned Harpsichord. It really doesn't surprise me that my thoughts are scattered and random - they fit in with my music. :)

Eric, you credit me with far more organizational skilz than I possess, at least when it comes to technology. Hey, I only just realized today that I can shuffle albums rather than songs. But the other is growing on me...forcing me to listen to tracks I might otherwise not.
Beth, I know about your eclectic musical taste. One song that inserted itself on the plane ride home today was a Flaming Lips number, thanks to you...it's growing on me. ;-)
