What is Art?

From today's art crawl:

Imagine walking into a home that looks and feels like an art museum, and being greeted by these folks, The Tourists. I nearly fell over when I realized they were not "real." You've gotta love their outfits. Can anyone guess the artist?

My favorite piece was this:

Mummified Barbie. Heh.

And here's a "close" up of their latest acquisition, by Chuck Close. I know they spent millions on this piece alone. Can you tell what is represented in this section of the painting?

You mean apart from the face? :)

Those tourists look uncannily real. He looks like he has hair on his arms!

I only saw the face for a brief moment before it disappeared again...

The older I get the farther back I have to be...up close it was "messed up" enough so that the eyes and the nose popped right out at me. ;-)

I was going to ask other than the face as well. :) The tourists are amusing, very lifelike. But can you imagine having them in your home and going downstairs at 2am to get a glass of water, loggy from sleepy and not thinking right...I'm guessing that you'd make way too many 911 calls to make your art worthwhile. (:

I saw the face first thing, but I have an unfair advantage: I just got my first pair of bifocals last week, and I can see all kinds of things, now. Which is not entirely a good thing, because I've become uncomfortably aware of all the hair growing out of my nose.

But enough about me. I know I've seen that Tourist guy before, but not since the '70s. Praise the Lord.

Guess I didn't get close enough on the face. But then, with bifocals, all things become clearer (so I hear ;-). I'll post the whole painting later.

Mis_nomer...that's not the only place he has hair. Even up close and in "person" they look uncannily real. It's scary.

Beth, I refrained from photographing the nude version of one of these at the bottom of their stairs, reclining in a chair. Now that would be enough to warrant a 911 call (or just a call to the coroner's office).

Foo, did we really need to know that about your nose hair? I think not. ;-)

as for those tourists, they look real. i looked real close and they look real. but they need to see if they can yank those pants up a little higher on the man.
